Fireplace Makeover: Toddler Edition
If you have a fireplace in your home that you’re trying to baby proof, this makeover works wonders! Initially I just covered it up with a piece of Home Depot cardboard and I told myself it was a temporary fix. Well that piece of cardboard stayed there for a solid month or two until I couldn’t take the eye sore anymore. I did a quick Pinterest search and found this neat magnet idea that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.
Materials needed:
- Iron Draft Guard
- Double Sided Sticky Tape (NOTE: Because our actual fireplace backing isn’t magnetic, I opted to use heavy duty tape. If you have a magnetic backing you can use magnets to fasten the iron guard to your fireplace)
- Cute Magnets
Iron Draft Guard
Be sure to check your measurements to make sure whatever iron guard you buy is going to be big enough to cover your fireplace. This is the exact one I bought and it’s pretty great. There was a small defect at one of the corners, but I just took some pliers to it to flatten it out.
DIY Doctor Double Sided Sticky Tape
This stuff is heavy duty. Don’t for one second think that it’s not going to be able to hold up the iron, because it definitely should. I’ve used this tape for multiple things around the house and it’s serious business. My iron guard has not budged one bit and that’s with a toddler constantly abusing it (HA!).
Now for the fun part…magnets for your little!
There are a bunch of options on Amazon so I linked a few for you here.
Voila. Now all you have to do is clean your fireplace surface before adhering the iron guard to it and you’re done! This makeover is super simple and very effective at keeping your little one occupied.
Hopefully.
